So it’s was Valentine’s Day and I don’t think I’ve ever written down my thoughts on the occaison. The thing is, I don’t really have much of an opinion on the whole thing.
However…
Valentine’s Day is a day for couples to buy nice things for each other and be extra soppy and sentimental. That’s really it. I mean, what else do couples do on Valentine’s Day that makes it different from any other day? For couples, it’s a day to be “more in love”. Which, obviously, is complete bullshit.
Does it not just hurt you to see two people treat each other differently (in this case they treat each other nicer, but it’s still different treatment) simply because they are told to by card shops and a new batch of samey rom-coms? Now, I’m not one of those typical ”VALENTINE’S DAY IS A CORPORATE HOLIDAY WHERE COUPLES OLD AND YOUNG ARE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BY ADVERTISERS FOR A COMPANY’S PROFIT” types. I don’t agree with that statement. In fact, I am at the opposite end of the scale; how stupid and ignorant and self-righteous do you have to be to blame advertising for your own stupidity?
But I’m getting sidetracked. What I’m saying is that it upsets me how people will so willingly partake in these kinds of things. I’m not angry at companies for making Valentine’s day cards - why should I be when they’re simply taking advantage of how stupid people can be? I salute them! It’s people that make me angry. With Christmas it’s understandable that you’d buy into all the bullshit because there’s the whole religious/family aspect . But with Valentine’s Day, there’s nothing! It is simply some random day in a random month to “celebrate” being in a relationship.
Sorry, but if you buy into all the Valentine’s day bullshit then shouldn’t you be rejoicing being in a couple every day? Isn’t that like, the nature of relationships? People are just so mindless sometimes. Now fair enough, I can be fairly dumb at times, but when people literally spend money and lose sleep and stress about what to wear for Valentine’s day I am just like cop on. If you ~~lurve~~ him/her so much, show them everyday!
Ugh I don’t even know what I’m saying. Basically I think that if you like someone enough why don’t you just shower them with presents on another day and make it more special? Or just be nice to them every day and not just the 14th of February. Yeah, I sound (really) pathetic and bitter and annoyed but I ain’t bitter. People’s mindless behaviour just pisses me off.
Speaking of mindless behaviour, single people on Valentine’s day are even worse. All they seem to do is complain about being single. I am sorry but if you’re that desperate then just go out and find someone. Like, there are 6 billion people in the fucking world. There is someone for you. Stop complaining and just go with it (LOL REMEMBER I SAID ABOUT ROM COMS!?!!) or else go out and find someone.
So yeah, this was a fail of a post but I wrote the majority of it yesterday but didn’t get to publish it. It’s incoherent and hypocritical but hey, isn’t that what Teenage Pieces is all about?
