Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera

The IMMA is showing a selection of paintings from the above artists and I went along to see them at the weekend.

I don’t know the first thing about art but I’ve recently found that going to galleries is a great pastime. The New Gallery in the IMMA is really well laid out. It’s like a a house with various different rooms and also a basement they call the “reading room” (but I think it only had that name for the purpose of the Kahlo & Rivera exhibit).

Some of the highlights included

Rivera’s Landscape with Cacti

Kahlo’s (deep breath!) The Love Embrace of the Universe, the Earth (Mexico), Diego, Me, and Senor Xolotl

There was also a display of photographs that Kahlo’s Father, Guillermo, took for the Mexican government. They were gorgeous. It’s impossible to find the photos online though so make do with this tiny one

I don’t really know how to express whatever the exhibition made me feel. It’s not life-changing or transcendent or whatever but it’s hugely entertaining and I really recommend a visit
